The Belgium men’s national football team, governed by the Royal Belgian Football Association and part of FIFA and UEFA, is known as the Red Devils and has just come through the strongest period in its history. Belgium finished third at the 2018 World Cup, their best ever result, and held the number one place in the FIFA World Ranking from September 2018 to March 2022, having first reached it in November 2015. They were runners-up at Euro 1980 and won Olympic gold on home soil in 1920. The golden generation of Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois, Romelu Lukaku and Jan Vertonghen defined that era, and Belgium now build toward the 2026 World Cup under head coach Mark van Bommel, appointed in July 2026.
